PDHPE, Visual art and dance teacher – Ms Jessica Kuit

Tell us a little about your job?

I am a PDHPE, Visual Arts and Dance teacher. When I am not in the classroom, you can find me teaching the Dance Ensembles or choreographing the upcoming 2023 School Production The Sound of Music.

How long have you worked at TIGS?

As a proud TIGS alumna, I am excited to officially begin my first year at TIGS. However, you may have seen me around campus in previous years, when I had the pleasure of teaching students in the Dance Ensembles as well as choreographing the 2019 School Production of High School Musical.

What is the best part of your job?

Students are transformed through Dance, Visual Arts and Physical Education and I enjoy facilitating these authentic and transformational learning experiences for students, through exploration of movement, and creative inquiry.

Another personal highlight of my job is attending school camps. During these camps we see students conquer their fears, challenge themselves, climb to the top of steep mountains (and I mean steep mountains) and have the opportunity to try new things (whether it be cooking or setting up a tent for the first time). It is during these camps where we witness such vulnerability and growth in students, which simply cannot be taught in the classroom.

What’s the best piece of advice you have ever been given?

‘Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity’

And also something which is so easily underrated…’A smile can go a long way’ 🙂

What are you reading now?

I love reading Historical Fiction, and I am just about to finish reading The Tattooist of Auschwitz by Heather Morris.
