Outdoor
Education

Our students grow in confidence and capability through guided camps, expeditions and adventures.

Camps

Our comprehensive outdoor education program is centred on our camps for students in Years 3 to 10. We partner with leading outdoor specialists to run camps across NSW that build character, community and capability.

Junior School
Our first camp for students in Years 3-4, is a safe introduction to our outdoor education program with a 3 day trip to Waterslea in the beautiful Shoalhaven region. The Year 5-6 camp builds on this program, with students attending Deer Park in the Royal National Park for 3 days, with an added bonus of camping for Year 6.

Senior School
Students in Years 7-10 embark on an annual camp, progressing from basic skills like tent setup and campfire cooking to snow camping by Year 10. Through facing challenges in a safe, supportive environment, a sense of achievement and responsibility is cultivated.

Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award

The Duke of Ed program empowers young people to challenge themselves, develop practical skills, and make a positive impact through a variety of adventurous, voluntary, and skill-building activities.
Illawarra Grammar is in the top 100 schools for The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award program in Australia, with an average of 80% of participants achieving their Bronze, Silver and Gold awards.
Every year, our School runs multiple Bronze, Silver and Gold expeditions facilitated by our Duke of Ed Coordinator.
“My fondest memory at TIGS would definitely have to be all of the Outdoor Education expeditions and camps that I was lucky enough to experience…Another big part of my schooling was taking part in the Duke of Edinburgh Award. I enjoyed going through and accomplishing the different parts of the award and then stepping up into the next award. I completed my Gold Duke of Ed after attending the Gold trip with my cohort. Prince Edward then awarded me my Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award at a ceremony at Sydney Town Hall.”
