Junior and Senior CASA Swimming Carnivals
During Week 5, both the Junior and Senior CASA Swimming Carnivals were held at the Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre. Following on from the name change from NASSA to CASA (Co-educational Anglican Schools Association), these were the first major CASA events of the year and The Illawarra Grammar School put on impressive displays of swimming prowess at both carnivals.
JUNIOR CARNIVAL
TIGS was represented by 31 students at the Junior carnival and our students performed exceptionally well. At the end of the carnival, TIGS was named as the Champion school, beating the other seven schools by more than 100 points. There were many exceptional individual and team relay performances that led to this win, including the following Age Champions:
- Oscar Sheppard: 1st 8-10B
- Ziyu Han: 2nd 11G
- Kirra Oxman: 3rd 11G
- Jayden Wang: 3rd 12-13B
- Zali-Rose McIlwraith: 2nd 12-13G
SENIOR CARNIVAL
At the Senior Carnival, TIGS sent a team of 37 athletes, all of whom gave their best for the School. Our swimmers banded together extremely well, and swam their hearts out, to take the School into second place overall, well ahead of six other schools, but behind the dominant St Luke’s Grammar School. One of the highlights of the evening was the Junior Girls Medley Relay Team of Matilda Vermey, Chelsea Bessell, Tessa Murphy and Mackenzie Tregonning storming home to win their race comfortably.
Congratulations to the following students who finished in the Top 3 for Age Champions:
- Joshua Mumford: 3rd 14B
- Matilda Vermey: 3rd 14G
- Kai Pilkington: 3rd 15B
- Alexander Mumford: 3rd 16B
- Claire Spicknall: 2nd 17G
- Ella McIlwraith: 1st 18G
Also, a big thanks to our Year 12 swimmers, Ella McIlwraith, Mia Parker, Riley Baird and Tyler Davidson, who led the team exceptionally well at their final CASA swimming carnival for TIGS.
