It’s all happening in the Junior School
Welcome to our new families
The first of our “Orientation to the Junior School” sessions took place this week. We have a number of new families who have either recently joined the Junior School or will be commencing with us in 2022. Many have made the move from Sydney, interstate and some internationally. We welcome you all to our School community and look forward to the opportunities to get to know your children and families over the coming months.
Remembrance Day
Last Thursday, our Remembrance Day Ceremony in the Junior School was led with responsibility and sense of occasion by our Junior School Captains and Vice Captains, Darby Parrish, Evelyn Sanzone, Henry Chen and Edie Taggart. Junior School students, Kindergarten through to Year 6 spent time learning about Remembrance Day, and had the opportunity to consider those who have fought and lost their lives during war and to honour their memory.
Back to the pool this week
It was with great joy that our Kindergarten to Year 2 students returned to the pool this week. The cold weather didn’t dampen the excitement of our children and the visit to the McKeon’s pool was a highlight of the week. Learning to swim is an essential part of our Sport programme, one that we are grateful to have been able to return to before the commencement of the Summer holidays. Thank you to all of our teachers and sport staff for the careful planning and supervision.
The 2022 Year 6 Captains Election process
On Thursday and Friday, Mrs Wallace and I took the Year 5 students through the 2022 Year 6 Captains election process. We were greatly impressed by the interest and confidence of the future leaders of our Junior School. The process itself allowed all students to fairly and confidently engage, ensuring that they were supported and encouraged as they presented their ideas to their Junior School peers via video recordings, who then placed their votes. Our 2022 Captains will be announced later in the year and I look forward to working closely with these students to bring their actions to life in our Junior School.
The Year 6 student leadership programme, allows all students opportunities to develop the confidence to make a difference in our School and their community. It is a hallmark element in the development of young people of character.
