Year 5 and Year 6 students recently enjoyed some time out of the classroom to engage in Japanese cultural and linguistic experiences at The Japan Foundation in Sydney. Students participated in two different workshops, and also explored the limited time OH!Bento Exhibition, which celebrates Japan’s rich food culture.
Year 6 students learned about the history of Shodo, known as Japanese calligraphy. They demonstrated beautiful posture and calmness as they created their own Calligraphy masterpiece of a chosen kanji.
Traditional taiko drumming was the focus of Year 5’s workshop. Students practised Japanese pronunciation using the different beats of the drum, and then composed their own piece to present to their class.
We look forward to using our new skills back in the classroom for another busy term of fun and learning.
