Learning about the complexities of citizenship

Aug 11 2023

Our Year 11 Legal Studies students last week were again fortunate to have an amazing guest lecture from terrorism expert Mrs Jeni Percival about the complexities of citizenship in the War on Terror.

They looked at the rights and responsibilities of both citizens and the government, particularly in relation to the foreign fighters debate. Students compared laws around the world and considered the implications of these on the rights of citizens.

A clear highlight was when students formed groups and were asked to play the role of government officials, solving problems and suggesting policies to “what would you do” real life, contemporary case studies. Students discovered a whole world beyond the classroom, and thoroughly enjoyed engaging with Jeni who challenged their ideas and perspectives.
