Meet Our New Chaplain

Mar 14 2024

Rev Dave Binggeli commenced as the Chaplain of The Illawarra Grammar School in January 2024, bringing with him a wealth of enthusiasm and dedication to this role. Join us in welcoming Rev Binggeli to our School.

Where did you work before joining our School?

I was the Site Pastor at St Alban’s Five Dock in Sydney, which is one of four sites that comprise Christ Church Inner West. Before that (in what feels like a former life) I was an Exercise Physiologist, having studied Exercise and Sports Science, prior to undertaking my studies in Theology.

What do you teach?

Biblical Studies

What have you enjoyed so far about being Chaplain?

I enjoy the diversity of the role. In one moment, I find myself preparing a lesson for Year 11 on Intellectual Virtue; the next moment I’m preparing a Chapel talk or meeting with the Chapel Prefects; and the next moment I might be playing handball at lunch near H Block. It certainly keeps me on my toes!

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

I am always on the search for good ramen – so far, the best I’ve had is at Finbox in Thirroul. I also enjoy jumping in an ocean pool after a jog or going for bike ride with my two little ones (3 and 5 years old). Our family is new to the Illawarra and we are discovering there is plenty to do in your spare time here. I’m looking forward to expanding my recreational horizons.
