From 18 March to 21 March, The Illawarra Grammar School had the privilege of hosting 12 students from our sister school, Sapporo Nichidai High School. Our partnership with Nichidai dates back to the mid-1990s, but after four years of not being able to meet due to COVID-19, it was a joy to finally welcome them back to the Illawarra.
The visit proved immensely rewarding for both our students and those from Nichidai, as they engaged in a variety of activities including a trip to Symbio Zoo, participation in our school lessons, and an Aussie BBQ on the final day.
The Nichidai High School visit fosters a dynamic, natural, and authentic interaction that not only deepens understanding of each other’s cultures and languages but also cultivates meaningful, lifelong friendships.
I would like to say a particular thank you to all the families who hosted a Japanese student. Your hospitality and generosity are greatly appreciated.
I hope you are all looking forward to Nichidai’s next visit in 2026 as much as I am.
