Taiko are a range of Japanese percussion instruments that have been a part of Japanese culture for centuries. While they have a deceptively simple construction, these instruments have a powerful impact when played, especially in an ensemble.
Kim from Taiko Japanese Drumming recently ran a special workshop for Senior School and Junior School students where they got a chance to stand behind a Taiko and learn about the technique and history of Japanese drumming.

Ms Clayton says “It was amazing to see what our students were able to achieve in such a short time, and they are already ‘air drumming’ away in Japanese lessons as we sing some of our favourite songs.”
