TIGS Sport – Term 1 Overview
Welcome to 2021! With a disrupted year throughout 2020, we are hoping that sport can return to normal throughout the year. At the moment, we are still guided by NSW health guidelines, and as such there are restrictions and variations that will need to be implemented. Some of these may occur at short notice, and as such, I apologise in advance for any last-minute changes that may occur.
Junior School Sport
We are continuing to utilise our longstanding relationship with McKeon’s Swim School for Year 1 to Year 6 throughout Term I. Students will be given a 45-minute swimming lesson directed to their ability during their allocated sport time. Kindergarten will participate in Fundamental movement skill activities during their sport time on Tuesday afternoons. Activities will include running, jumping, hopping, balancing, hand-eye coordination and foot-eye coordination.
Senior School Sport
Year 7 and Year 8 sport has begun on Monday afternoons. Students will be rotating around different activities throughout the year in their year groups. In Term I, Year 7 will be participating in Surfing and Stand Up Paddle Boarding run by Pines Surfing Academy. Year 8 will be participating in Basketball and Water Polo at the University of Wollongong facilities.
It is great to have Year 9 and Year 10 sport back on the timetable in 2021. This will be held on Friday afternoons and the Sports Team have come up with some exciting electives for the students to choose from each term. In Term I, students have the choice of Surfing, Stand Up Paddle Boarding, SAVVY Fitness, Beach Games, Blue Mile Walk and Dragon Boating.
Co-curricular sporting activities
Senior School – On top of the Co-Curricular Period 5 on Tuesday, the following co-curricular sporting opportunities will begin in Week 3.
- Talented Athletes Programme (TAP) – Tuesday (Movement Mechanics) and Thursday Morning
- Morning Surfing for Year 8 and Year 12 – Thursday Morning (7:00 – 8:20)
- Basketball Training with Tim Coenraad – Thursday Afternoon
All sign-ups can be found in the specific sport/activity tiles on TIGS Sport OLLE page here.
Carnivals
Swimming Carnivals will be held on 16 February for the Junior School (Year 3 to Year 6) and 17 February for the Senior School.
Both swimming Carnivals will be going ahead with some minor modifications at this stage. We are hoping to allow spectators and further details on attending will be sent to families.
Cross-Country Carnival will be held on April 1 for both the Junior and Senior Schools at Kembla Joggers (Darkes Road West Dapto). Further information will be sent closer to the date.
